Nestled in a quiet section of Charleston’s renowned King Street, Fulton Lane Inn is just steps from everything Downtown Charleston has to offer. The Inn’s storied past dates all the way back to 1889 when our earliest building was first constructed for the YWCA. The antiquated charm that still thrives here allows our guests to get an even deeper sense of the city’s history. Immerse yourself in the days of old, and experience the very best of the city in a relaxed, Southern style in one of South Carolina’s premier inns.
Steps from King Street
Fulton Lane Inn is just steps from world-class dining, gorgeous and historic waterfront homes, as well as the art, antique, and shopping districts.
In 1889, a three-story building with an elaborate facade of red brick and sandstone is built for the YWCA. The first floor houses an indoor swimming pool, while the second and third floors’ rooms are rented to YWCA members and their guests.
On the same street in 1912, another three-story building–this one of pressed brick with granite trim and a yellow brick facade–is built for a tailor, John Rugheimer & Sons. Rugheimer started the tailoring business after suffering an injury while blockade running for the Confederacy
After serving as apartments for some time, the buildings undergo a complete renovation from 1992 to 1994. Modern baths and other conveniences are added, while the original historical features are thoughtfully maintained.
Finally, in 2008, all of the buildings are connected by interior hallways, transforming them into a one-of-a-kind destination—the 45-room Fulton Lane Inn.

"A Very Special Boutique Hotel"We spent 3 nights at the Fulton Lane Inn as part of a cousin's reunion. It has lovely rooms, a great walkable location and wonderful staff. Although in the popular historic district our rooms were very quiet. The complimentary continental breakfast delivered to our rooms each morning was a delight- everything was delicious and appropriately hot when delivered to our room. We also had a chance to enjoy one of the nightly wine and cheese hours at the sister hotel, Kings Cours with its lovely interior courtyard. All major tourist attractions and popular restaurants were within easy walking distance and last but not least the staff on the front desk was very friendly and able to answer all questions. I would highly recommend this hotel.TripAdvisor | Newport, Rhode Island | 5/31/22
"So comfortable and accommodating! Wonderful staff and great location"My stay was exceptional. The first employee I met, Susu, went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. The evening sherry service (complimentary) was a nice touch. The continental breakfast setup was brilliant. I ordered what I wanted for breakfast via a card (checked off what I wanted and when to deliver it) and hung it on my doorknob. The next morning it was delivered and I so enjoyed eating breakfast in my room overlooking King Street. The location couldn't be better - one block from the Charleston Market, a few blocks from Battery Park and Rainbow Row, and right on King Street where there's tons of shopping and food to choose from.TripAdvisor | Greenville, South Carolina | 9/12/21
